Car hire/rental
Anyone got or seen good deals for this year? I understand the exchange rate is having an effect but they seem extortionate compared to previous trips.
Even when I had to pay under 25yr old excess.
Normally use Hertz, but checking them all Alamo, Dollar, Sixt (but it's not at airport)
If anyone sees a good deal please post / share here.

We always do Hertz as I get a decent discount through my employer. We've used others that appear cheaper but once they start adding all the hidden fees, it ends up being more expensive than Hertz. Plus we love the Gold Canopy service. My name is up in lights

This will be our first time renting a car in Orlando and we are going with Hertz. We get a discount with AAA and as Amy mentioned, once you start adding in all those extra fees, Hertz comes out on top. I've also signed up for their Gold Plus Rewards program. Still reading up on it so that I know what to expect.

Ugh Dan_Mol I did that off site shit once, what a pain in the ass. I don't recommend it unless it's a steal. We often go through DH's work but yes, look into fees. We've used assorted but did get a great deal last visit with Alamo, plus it was first level and first parking area out of the airport terminal.

The gold canopy is the big pull towards Hertz. I know Alamo Insiders and Avis wizards get the same. I refuse to hire a tiny little matchbox on wheels which doesn't help. Scrabbled make sure have all details in your booking, flight number. You will get a text message with car location and car you are getting. It is so quick and easy.

Scrabbled Also something to keep in mind, our car insurance covers us with a rental if God forbid somethang happens so we never get insurance. They like to pressure you into getting that and also added extras like letting them filling the tank if you don't want to take the time to fill it before you drop it off. Also look around for a good deal for gas--gas by the airport is ridiculously overpriced. I cannot emphasize enough, either to stay out of the left express lanes, the SunPass is often there on 528. Bring a roll of quarters and some singles for tolls, it's $2.25 or $2.75. Not to scare you Rita but Floridians drive like nuts.

Just done a quick check, only offer Sixt at MCO which sadly is the off airport rental requiring a shuttle. I would rather pay extra and use the likes or Hertz gold to get going especially after a 9hr flight. Like the idea though.

A girl in my work and her friends are off to Miami (then LA, then New York) next week. They have hired one of these for when they are in Miami!

She is braver than me - she has never driven in the States before. She drives a Mazda 2 once a month! That's a big step up! Dunno that that car would have been my first choice - as amazing as it is, Id be terrified I'd crash it!

That's a lot of extra car if she is used to driving something small! Also probably will use a lot of gas. I'm a party pooper, apologies.
