The progress between the state of Florida and the rise of transportation technology has taken an interesting turn. OIA/MCO will start allowing Uber and Lyft to now not just drop off, but pick up airline passengers as well. This is a move I'm for. Taxi companies aren't going to like it for numerous reasons, most of which are financially based, but this is something that was inevitable. More and more people are using these apps that as much as taxis will fight it, they're eventually going to have to adapt. Where passengers will benefit is that the competition is now going to dictate those fares, which means lowering the rate for the airport(which is part of where taxi drivers make their big money). Where noone will benefit is that everyone is also anticipating heavier congestion. One interesting note is that to my knowledge, something that taxi companies have is essentially higher level insurance policies that cover more than what the average Uber/Lyft drivers have. Uber does have limited coverage though. Click here to read more on that one.
