I know a few of us have hopped from UOR to WDW and vice versa. I'm curious how you went from one resort to the other.
I was talking to my sister about it today and she wants to use Uber (not a fan of this idea...) to go from MCO to UOR and then UOR to WDW when we move resorts. I would prefer a taxi or Mears, but I know Mears services many hotels at both resorts AND outside the resorts. We're not renting a car, either.
For those who have done it, what's the cheapest option? The fastest? Is there another option we're not considering?

Only one type of car is allowed to pick up from the airport for uber and it's the more expensive option. So taxi or mears private car would be a good option. We have used uber from UOR to MCO and it was $20 so we thought it was worth it. But we've done private Mears for that too as well and were happy with it.

If staying at Disney, I believe you are entitled to use the free magical express to most onsite hotels. This is same for return leg of your journey. Magical ExpressUniversal offer "superstar shuttle" service, I believe it's more expensive than mears bus and not as good. $35 per person round trip. Mears is a $33 per person round trip, has more drop off points than the above so may take longer. Mears
I believe MattLynch91 and @lainie have used both Universal services.

We always use the Mears shuttle from the airport to the hotel, We book it via BA when we book the holiday. Its always been really reliable - it just depends on whether you can be arsed doing the whole going to all the other hotels thang.
To get to Disney we have used the Mears shuttle, a taxi and also Uber. Uber was by far and away the cheapest. I think they must have made a mistake on the last trip cos they only charged $14 .

@lainie when you take the mears shuttle from the airport, does it only stop at hotels onsite at Universal, or others in the area as well? Does it just depend on who is on the shuttle?

It just depends on who is on the shuttle. We have been incredibly Lucky most times though in that we have either been dropped off first, the only couple on it, or its been us and one other. When we stayed at The Portofino though it did about eleventy billion drops before us!

That's what I'm worried about with Mears, @lainie Dan_Mol Candy McIcicles. Since we only have 2 days at UOR, we want to make the most of it and not wait around for others who are arriving at the same time we are (inevitable). I want to avoid Uber as much as I can. Last time, BFF and I were lucky enough to find a private car whose person never showed so he took us back and forth for taxi prices. I think Uber is a sad reality. Any idea if Lyft is an option in FL the way it is up here in MA? Magical Express will haul us back to MCO, kicking and screaming. Travel agent is on standby to arrange it once we book flights.

Because our trips are so short, we always just exit the airport and jump in a waiting cab - kinda costly, but saves time

allyface I used Mears for the first time last year, the service itself and ease of using was great. But the wait time all depends on the number of others going to your destination, you will always be put with people either going to UOR or people on route on IDrive. As my flight was 2-3 hours late and now later at night, plus I was one of first off my flight; this meant there wasn't many people around. I registered and everything and then sat down, I was told it would be here shortly, I sat waiting for 15 minutes and still no shuttle, so went up again. Then I subconsciously put on the "other place" cap I have and funnily enough within seconds someone came to tell me there was a shuttle waiting and it was just me. Not sure if conincidence or not! I know on the same trip, Kendall & Ian shared a town car from MCO to Cabana Bay and it also included a Publix stop, I will see if I can find out how much. For travel from UOR to WDW, I would 100% say Uber! We used Uber several times and once to go to the Polynesian, it's brilliant! For MCO to UOR you can only get "Uber XL/Black" therefore I believe it's not too dissimilar price to a Mears. If Uber XL is under $40 per trip, for two people it makes it less than Mears, as I think Mears was $35 return perhaps. Yes, LYFT is also an option in Orlando, I've also used it during to welcome discounts. It sounds like you finish your trip at a WDW resort, so at least you have the airport shuttle covered with your free "Magical Express" service.

Thanks, MattLynch91! On a Saturday in July, I'm wondering how many folks are heading to UOR. I'll have to price it all out. None of us have ever used Uber or Lyft before, so we are leaning towards that if we can get discount codes. I have this severe fear of my Uber driver being the one deranged one and I wind up in an alligator swamp and on the news. I suspect we'd also need the Uber XL as there's 4 of us, each with a case. www.uber.com/ride/uberxl/ Fare calculator tells me $59-$73 from MCO to UOR and $20-$26 for UOR to WDW. My goodness.

allyface Not a problem. I'm sure when I signed up to Lyft I got $5 off my first 5 rides and then with Uber your first ride is free up to $22 with the code FEELING22. Uber & Lyft are very safe, just pick drivers with high ratings. Both your Uber estimates are about right, as only Uber Black/XL can pick up at MCO it will be around $60 I reckon. If you used this as your fist Uber ride, as you can get a free journey up to $22, this would make this $38. Making it just $10 each for the 4 in your group. Then with your Magical Express journey back from WDW being free, your airport trips are only costing $10 each as oppose to the $30 from Mears. But for the UOR to WDW, we paid about $15 (inc Lyft $5 discount) to get to Polynesian, which between 3 of us at $5 each was cheaper than a Mears shuttle from UOR to WDW. Hope that helps!

In December we got a really nice woman who was okay with stopping at a Walgreens so we could get medicine to soothe our colds.

I haven't used Uber but I have heard it's good and pretty cheap. I am the same, though, I don't feel comfortable using it if it's just me or just M and I. DH likes a car rental. I have used Mears several times and they are pretty good. Once my flight was late and they just took me anyway despite the time on my ticket. I don't like that you cannot change your scheduled times but that's to get you to the airport on time (TSA line out the wazoo) and allow for those other pickups. I think the day you come in and leave and the time makes a difference, too. Double check reservations, once I had the driver say I wasn't on the list and another man there taking others offered to take me but Mears did show up (this was CBBR to MCO). Other times have been no issues. It's not a bad rate, around $15 a person each way, considering you have a half an hour to MCO, but in a group, even for the three of us, that's getting pricey and I think you're better off splitting costs another way. It is reliable and safe, though, if you choose to go that way. Let us know what you decide.

We have been really impressed with Uber when we have used it in Orlando and have agreed that Uber will be our preferred method to get around in future. The drivers have all been really nice, the card have turned up really quickly once we ordered them and they are super cheap.
We would never in a million years consider using Uber in the UK though.
Not once have we felt unsafe or uneasy in the cars in Orlando. I really would recommend them.

Last trip we used Mears to get to the hotel. (We almost always use Mears from MCO to UOR) This time however we didn't have a good experience. We sat for 45 minutes waiting for the van. Once it arrived, it was at least another 45 minutes until we arrived at the hotel. The van was packed and we were the last stop. 6 stops in total. They didn't even stop at any of the other UO resorts. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with Mears and honestly saving a few bucks was not worth the time wasted. Next time I will probably just pay for a cab. On the way back to the airport we always use Uber. It is usually under $20. This time we had a woman Uber driver and I thought - how great! However, she took us a way that seemed twice as long and when I checked the charge the next day I noticed they billed me double! I immediately contacted Uber and they agreed that the driver went completely out of the way (it was around 9pm so there was no traffic to avoid) and they refunded me the difference from what I was quoted. I do like the upfront pricing that Uber now uses. I recommend definitely rating the Uber drivers when you ride. We have never had a problem with Uber (until this one). allyface there are codes for free rides for your first Uber. Also, if you refer someone you get a free ride. So the first time we used them, I used my free ride and then referred Rob and he used his free ride. Didn't pay anything the first 2 times! I can send you the link - if I can find it. Let me know if you are interested.
